Sri Lankan Community in Nepal Commemorates the Victims of the
Easter Sunday Bomb Attacks in Sri Lanka
 

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Nepal together with Anandakuti Viharaya organized a Buddhist religious service on Friday, 17th May 2019 to commemorate the victims of the Easter Sunday bomb attacks in Sri Lanka and National War Heroes of Tri-Forces, Police and Civil Defence Force who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.   

The Buddhist Monks, Sri Lankan expatriate community in Kathmandu and friends of Sri Lanka participated at this event.  Buddhist religious programme was presided over by Ven. Pagngnamurthi Thero. While delivering a Dhammanusasara, Ven. Delbaddara Thero bestowed merit to the fallen War Heroes, victims of the bomb attacks on 21st April 2019 and invoked blessings to the bereaved family members of the victims and prayed for a speedy recovery of the injured.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Swarna Perera extended her condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist attacks and emphasized the importance of unity among different ethnic communities and those of diverse religious beliefs to defeat terrorism and to emerge stronger. In her speech Ambassador Perera also mentioned the sacrifices made by National War Heroes to protect the motherland.

The participants lit oil lamps in memory of the innocent victims, who lost their lives.
At the end of the Buddhist religious service “Dhana” (alms-giving) was offered to the members of Venerable Maha Sanga.
